Boat Boast Boast

by Carl Baird

‘This painting is based on the theme of post pandemic migration. I used  the painting' The Raft of the Medusa’ Géricault as inspiration. The  painting was a controversial one and Géricault was aware of that. The painting was a political statement against the government who had failed in appointing a proper captain to the Medusa and, subsequently, tried to cover up their mistakes in handling the aftermath. I wanted to show the duality or the opposing views on the pandemic, the boat represents hopelessness, floating around without being anywhere. The two main colors on the boat is to show opposing views, on one side is the dark buildings . police riot squad line up ,imperialistic symbols  and a hand saying no on the other side is the green earth and a helping hand welcoming people'.
